The Portuguese Program operates as an essential service component within the Department of Spanish and Portuguese and in numerous degree programs in the fields of Latin American Studies, History, Political Science, Romance Languages, Anthropology, Sociology, and Economics.  Our students include majors in Latin American Studies, Literature, Spanish, and Business, among others.

The Portuguese program offers courses in language, literature, culture and linguistics. Students enrolled in the Portuguese program may choose to minor in Portuguese or major in Spanish with a concentration in Portuguese.  A PhD program is also offered in Luso-Brazilian and Hispanic American Literary Studies. In any case, the Portuguese program at the University of Arizona offers the students comprehensive liberal arts education, and provides them with a body of knowledge and the analytical skills necessary to undertake linguistic, cultural, and literary investigation in Portuguese.
