Sonora Review 53: "Where's my Rainbow

Excerpts:

Michael Martone

from Jonathan Franzen Saved From Drowning

That summer, The Collective labored to disrupt the editorial procedures of The New Yorker sending, for one hundred days, one hundred times each day, from one hundred addresses gleaned from all over the tri-state region, the exact word-for-word, exact same short story—a realistic domestic drama involving adultery, Christmas, and a favored scion’s homecoming from Groton.

Richard Katrovas

from Private Gold

One of the cable stations in Prague is called Private Gold. It’s hardcore porn and is scrambled for non-subscribers....The scramble is, in some ways, more erotic than if the images were unabashed, and of course this fact is the secret of the erotic. Porn isn’t erotic; it’s anti-erotic, merely instrumental. On the other hand, arousal is an incidental feature of erotica, which is much more about mystery, about the mystery of the other, that which is delightfully unknowable.
