G. STUDENT SUPPORT

G1. Internal Sources of Funding

Internal sources of student support include Graduate College Fellowships, Graduate Assistantships in Teaching (GATships), Graduate Research Assistantships (GRAships), Graduate Tuition Scholarships (GTS), Graduate Registration Scholarships (GRS) and Graduate College 900-level waivers. In addition, the following support programs are available: Graduate Student Research Fund, Minority Graduate Student Research Fund, Summer Research Support Program, Minority Academic Assistance Program, Minority Graduate Student Travel Fund, Graduate and Professional Student Travel Grant Fund, Travel Award Incentive Program, the Dean's Fellowship Program in the Graduate College, and the Herbert E. Carter Graduate Fellowship in Interdisciplinary Programs. All awards except the Graduate College 900-level waiver are competitive. For more information, see the Graduate College brochure on Academic and Financial Support for Graduate Students.

G2. Time Limit for Internal Financial Support

Generally speaking, after admission to the SLAT Program students are eligible for internal financial support (including fellowships, GATships, GRAships, GTS and GRS support) for a maximum of five years while registered as full-time students in the SLAT Program, provided they are performing assigned tasks in a satisfactory manner and making satisfactory progress to degree. Students supported by cooperating departments should inform themselves of department-specific performance criteria and restrictions on continuance of appointment. Graduate Tuition Scholarships (GTS) and Graduate Registration Scholarships (GRS) are awarded for one year only. Students must reapply annually if they wish to be considered for such support. Please see "A Guide to the Time Limit on Financial Aid" in Appendix E.

G3. External Sources of Funding

For many years, The Research Support Office, a unit of the Office of the V.P. for Research, published bimonthly the Research Review that listed grants and other forms of financial aid available to faculty and students. That office was closed on June 28, 2002. Copies of the Research Review are still available on line at http://vpr2.admin.arizona.edu/rso/ .
