Check the selected format for your written comprehensive exam:

3. List the names of five faculty members whom you wish to have serve on your examination committee (three for the major and two for the minor). Ask each of the five if they are willing to be on your examining committee. Prepare a reading list of items you consider important in your area (what you should have read before taking the exam) and obtain committee members’ suggested additions and approval. Ask the professors to initial both spaces beside their names.

4. Arrange tentative dates for the written and oral exams with your committee chair and other major and minor members.

(Note: this must be at least three weeks and no longer than six months after completing the written exam. A three‑hour block of time must be scheduled. “Application for Comprehensive Oral Exam” form must be filed with SLAT ten (10) days before the scheduled date.
5. Take this completed form to the SLAT
Program Director for approval at least 60 days before the proposed date(s) for
the written exam. Once this form is
approved and filed, comprehensive exam committee members can be changed only
upon petition.

The SLAT Program Director will also appoint a member of the Executive Council for the oral portion of the exam (non‑voting) if no Executive Council member is one of the five appointed for the major and minor.
