Undergraduate Curriculum

The Department of German Studies provides instruction designed to develop competence in oral and written communication; insights into language form, usage and meaning; and knowledge of German literature, cultural history, and contemporary issues in the German-speaking world. Scholarships are avaliable such as the Weinel Scholarship, the Grunow Scholarship, the German Heritage Klub Scholarship, and the Minority Scholarship. Various study abroad and exchange programs are available. The Department of German Studies offers the intensive Arizona in Leipzig program during the summer. Many students also study at the Deutsche Sommerschule in Taos, New Mexico. A major in German Studies, by itself or in combination with another field, can open the door to careers in education, international business, the foreign service, and many other professions.

The Department offers programs leading to the Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts with a major in German Studies. The Bachelor of Arts in Education and Master of Education with a teaching major in German Studies are available through the College of Education.
