Here is a brief overview of who we are and what we do:

• As a department, we pride ourselves on award-winning teaching and advising. Each semester, our foundation language courses in French and Italian and our General Education courses [Tier I and Tier II] attract a growing number of students.

• Our undergraduate degree programs in French and Italian emphasize proficiency in the target language, critical thinking, and intellectual growth. Three options are available for the B.A. in French (Literature; Teaching; and Business) and two in Italian (Language and literature; Italian studies).

• The faculty in French and Italian builds on an impressive record of outstanding, internationally- recognized research and scholarship. The faculty in French train graduate students at the M.A. and at the doctoral levels in almost all subfields of our discipline and from a wide variety of perspectives and theoretical approaches.

In short, we are a growing department with a sense of mission and purpose, a dynamic group of teachers, scholars, public servants, all deeply committed to our work and to the well-being of our students.
