In
summer 2007, for the first time the Program of Italian offered
an expanded Italian curriculum in Orvieto, Italy.
Since 2005 the faculty of Italian has been offering courses
in basic Italian (ITAL 101, 202z, and 310). In addition, students
who qualify could enroll in ITAL 393: Internship, where students
work in the city of Orvieto as a means to develop their linguistic
and cultural understanding.
Last summer, we were able to expand the offerings to also include
ITAL 496A: Topics in Advanced Italian Studies. The topic for
the course was the medieval Italian poetry of central Italy,
capitalizing on the location of the Institute and the planned
daytrips. In the future, other topics may be chosen for the
course.
By expanding the curriculum, Italian majors and minors can take
several Italian courses at the same time, thereby working more
quickly towards their degree.
