Students of Italian from the University of Arizona attended
Gaetano Donizetti’s Lucia di Lamermoor put on
by Arizona Opera. For a mere six dollars, students were able
to attend the dress rehearsal of a world-class opera and have
a fantastic view as they were allowed to sit wherever they wanted.
The opera, performed in Italian, was an excellent chance for
students to experience Italian in the real world. When asked
what they liked best, most students declared that they were
impressed with the soprano, Laura Whalen, who at one point belted
out a high “C” while lying on the floor! Most of
the students plan to attend the University of Arizona’s
opera L’amico Fritz which will be performed on
campus in November.
