The
Language Fair was held at the University of Arizona on Saturday,
April 12, 2008. The Association of Graduate
Student in French (AGSF) was there to celebrate this day.
The Graduate Teaching Assistants asked their students (at the
100 and 200 level) to prepare Francophone desserts. More than
50
students
participated
and
brought food
to the French table. From wonderful apple pies to delicious
crèpes,
our table was covered with gorgeous dishes.
While some of us were selling food, others were judging the
poetry contest. Proceeds from sales benefited the AGSF.
One of our Graduate Assistant, Angélique Owanga, taught
a traditional dance from Martinique, le Bèlè.
The demonstration lasted an hour. A lot of people, including
the head of the Department of French and Italian,
Dr. D’Almeida,
participated and learned the steps, following the rhythm of
the music. Angélique also spent some
time
sharing
her love
of the island
by showing pictures and providing information about Martinique.
Finally, by the end of the day, we had so much food left that
we decided to give it away to a homeless shelter (4425 E. 22nd
street).
It was a great day to celebrate diversity and encourage language
learning!
