Interpretation Recognized by National Nuclear Security Administration

Professor Jaime Fatás was awarded a certificate of appreciation by the National Nuclear Security Administration of the US Department of Energy in recognition of his work as an interpreter at the international training sessions for the detection of radioactive, chemical and biological material that took place September 14-18 in Kennewick, Washington. Professor Fatás served as interpreter for the official delegations of the US and Spanish governments. Here at the university, Professor Fatás coordinates the joint B. A. concentration in translation and interpretation studies. This innovative cross-college collaboration between the Department of Spanish and Portuguese in the College of Humanities and the Department of Mexican American and Raza Studies in the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences is the fastest growing major concentration in Spanish. This program has been recognized for its contributions to training future translators and interpreters and its service to the public and private constituencies in need of cross-cultural communication and translation and interpretation services.
