Critical Languages Releases New Multimedia Language Software

The UA Critical Languages Program and the UA Computer Assisted Language Instruction Group announce the addition of three new DVD-ROM self-instructional language courses to the Critical Languages Series: Beginning Kurmanji Kurdish, Intermediate Ukrainian, and Advanced Turkish.

These classroom-tested, peer-reviewed DVD-ROMs contain video dialogs, thousands of native speaker audio recordings, extensive footnotes, several types of interactive exercises, and are equivalent to a one-year college course.

The Critical Languages Program has been developing multimedia CD-ROMs and DVD-ROMs for less commonly taught languages for over a decade with funding from the US Department of Education International Research and Studies Program, the UA College of Humanities, and the National Association of Self-Instructional Programs. Other languages targeted in the series include Brazilian Portuguese, Cantonese, Chinese, Kazakh and Korean.

Thousands of students worldwide are using the Critical Languages Series software, as independent learners or by those in a traditional or self-instructional classroom setting.
The courseware packages are distributed by the University of Arizona Press (1-800-426-3797). To learn more about the Series, go tohttp://clp.arizona.edu/cls or contact Scott Brill at the Critical Languages Program: brill@u.arizona.edu
