Schulz honored by Association of Departments of Foreign Languages |
Dr. Renate Schulz of the Department of German Studies was presented the 2008 ADFL Award for Distinguished Service to the Profession at the annual conference of the Modern Languages Association, held in San Francisco in December 2008. The award honors scholar-teachers for exceptional contributions to the field of language and literature. Schulz was characterized as a “dedicated and gifted administrator, advocate, scholar, pedagogue, editor, and teacher who has touched many lives.” Her work on reading and assessment, as well as her advocacy for an engaged, communicatively oriented, and socially and culturally relevant foreign language education have had far-reaching impact. Among other accomplishments honored were Dr. Schulz’s role in the founding of the Center for Educational Resources in Culture, Language, and Literacy, and for her work in establishing the University of Arizona’s Interdisciplinary PhD Program in Second Language Acquisition and Teaching. Schulz is currently Interim Head of the Department of German Studies. |
