University of Arizona to Host

Pre-Show Lecture for

Arizona Theatre Company’s Presentation of

KING HENRY V

UA College of Humanities English Professor Peter Medine hosts a two-hour event titled Shakespeare’s HENRY V: The Play, the Spectacle, and the Politics.

The lecture will take place at the University of Arizona campus on Sunday, March 29, 2009 from 1PM to 3PM in the Dorothy Rubel Room of the new Helen S. Schaefer Building. The lecture will revolve around the Shakespearian masterpiece and will explore the history of this classic in celebration of the upcoming Arizona Theatre Company presentation of The Acting Company/Guthrie Theater production of KING HENRY V. KING HENRY V will play at the Arizona Theatre Company March 26-29 in Phoenix, and April 2-5 in Tucson.

Topics to be discussed during Professor Medine’s lecture on March 29 include a brief introduction reviewing the “story” from the history of Henry’s military campaign in France, followed by an observation on the original text. In relation to the ATC production, Professor Medine will compare the Laurence Olivier Film (Henry V, 1944) with the Kenneth Branagh film of the same title (1989), concluding with an interactive conversation about audience expectations for ATC’s upcoming presentation of KING HENRY V.

A limited number of lecture tickets are available at $20 each. Only mailed registration forms are accepted. To download the registration form, please click here. The Registration deadline is March 23, 2009. For lecture information: Diane Davis, (520) 621-4743 and dianem@email.arizona.edu.

The cost of this event is not tax deductible. Registration fees will benefit The University of Arizona Humanities Seminars Program.

The Medine lecture takes place at the Helen S. Schaefer Building –also home of the UA Poetry Center-, 1508 E. Helen Street. There will be free parking in the garage at the northwest corner of Helen and Vine, as well as on the surrounding streets and surface lots.

The Arizona Theatre Company’s Tucson presentation of KING HENRY V will take place at the Temple of Music and Art, April 2 through 5. For information about the April 2-5 performances, contact the ATC directly at (520) 622-2823 and www.arizonatheatre.org.
