Advising in the College of Humanities

Students in humanities degree programs are guided through their academic career with the assistance of two types of advisors.

Academic advisors advise students on General Education, interpret College of Humanities and UA policy and procedures and make referrals to campus resources when needed.

Major advisors advise humanities students regarding their major and degree requirements and mentor students in their fields of study.

In this regard, the Academic Advising Center which is located in the Office of the Dean is highly interconnected with the departments and programs in the College of Humanities.

Both academic and major advisors actively support and encourage humanities students as they make important decisions related to their academic progress and career goals.

COH academic advisors believe advising is a partnership between an advisor and a student and recommend that humanities students schedule an advising appointment at least once a semester. At your advising appointment you can expect that your advisor will be able to

• Answer your General Education questions
• Help you understand UA and COH academic policies and procedures
• Approve dual enrollment credit from another institution or credit through the AP Advanced Placement, CLEP College Level Examination or the IB International Baccalaureate programs
• Assist you with course selection and registration
• Refer you to the appropriate student services and programs when needed test

For your advising appointment, you are asked to

• Arrive on time
• Bring your SAPR Student Academic Progress Report
• Familiarize yourself with important dates and deadlines at the UA
• If you are a senior who wants to start your Degree Check, you will need to deliver your paperwork to Modern Languages 345 the day before your appointment
• Ask questions, listen and follow up on advice
